Education Specialist, Richard House

Richard House holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Instrumental Music/Conducting (1998) and a Master’s in Trumpet Performance (1995) both from Arizona State University, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (1986) from East Carolina University.

He has over 35 years of experience teaching music, directing ensembles, mentoring music educators, and providing private trumpet lessons. He has worked with students of all ages, ranging from 3-year-olds to adult members of community orchestras. His 14 years as a band director include positions at Ligon Middle School, Enloe High School, Chesterfield High and Middle Schools, and St. Mary’s Catholic School. Additionally, he spent 7 years as an orchestra director and general music teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic School.

In higher education, Dr. House has directed bands, taught trumpet lessons, and mentored music educators for 21 years at institutions such as Presbyterian College, Claflin University, Augusta University, and Bridgewater College. For over 15 years, Dr. House has adjudicated Concert Bands, String Orchestras, Jazz Bands, and Show Choirs for Festivals of Music and Music in the Parks.

In addition to numerous church services, weddings, and recitals, his trumpet performance experience includes the Augusta Symphony, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival Orchestra. His primary trumpet teachers include David Hickman, James Searl, and Emerson Head.
